Abstract

Secondary title: Three-phase SiC-inverter for permanent magnet synchronous machine
Secondary abstract: In the following work, a development of 3-phase inverter for driving a permanent magnet synchronous motor is presented. The goal of this project was to develop an inverter which could be used in the traction system of our race car for the Formula Student competition. First a comparison between efficiencies of different switching element technologies is presented together with selection of the best one for our use case. This document covers development of the power stage circuit with the use of silicon carbide (SiC) switching devices, together with its dedicated control circuit which is based on opensource project VESC. Control algorithm of this project is using Field Oriented Control (FOC) to spin the motor, which requires precise reading of all three phase currents and angle of the motor with the use of resolver. Presented is facing with the problems of using high efficiency fast switching transistors of the new SiC technology. Through multiple iterations of power stage and control printed circuit boards, a reliable working of the inverter is achieved when driving loaded motor on a testbench.
