Secondary abstract: | High-entropy materials are a new type of material which recently gained in popularity and have started being actively researched. A major role in phase stabilisation is played by entropy which is a metric for the dispersion of energy and disorder. This work contains a classification of high-entropy materials and an overview of some synthesis methods of said materials. The work mainly focuses on the use of high-entropy materials as catalysts in different applications. Catalysts are nowadays vital in many industrial processes since they lower the required energy, emissions and costs of operation whilst increasing yield. Their problem is high price since they are mainly very rare metals. The main goal of discovering novel catalysts based on high-entropy materials is lowering the price either through alloying with cheaper metals or discovering entirely new alternatives while potentially improving catalytic activity. |
