Secondary title: | Iconographic Analysis of the Mileševa Monastery's Frescoes |
Secondary abstract: | The final seminar paper presents an iconographic analysis of the Mileševo monastery church which was created under the patronage of King Vladislav with the help of the advice of his uncle Saint Sava. Attention is on the original compositions that were created at the same time as the construction of the church. The paper chronologically outlines the historical circumstances and influences under which the monastery and its paintings were created. The main focus of the assignment is to research the thematic program and iconographic and stylistic elements of the frescoes although many of them are damaged and unpreserved. The Mileševa frescoes are also important for researching the Byzantine influence on medieval monuments in Serbia. |
