Abstract

Secondary abstract: Content and Language Integrated Learning, also known as CLIL, combines the teaching of a foreign language with the learning of other useful content. CLIL is particularly useful for foreign language teachers because it can motivate their students and offer them additional content not included in the curriculum. Nature-based teaching combined with the CLIL approach offers a unique way of delivering lessons, where the needs and well-being of the learners, and experiential learning are at the forefront. In the theoretical part of the Master's thesis, the CLIL approach and outdoor learning are discussed. The following section presents the types of outdoor education and possible locations for outdoor education in more detail. As outdoor education has many positive effects on students, these are, together with its health benefits, the focus of the chapter. We consider many positive effects on children's physical health as well as their mental health. However, nothing in life is black and white, so in the next section we also look at some possible negative effects of nature-based learning on children's health. Although there are not a lot of them, it is still important to discuss the negative sides as well. Finally, we look at some of the barriers to outdoor learning and possible solutions. The practical part of the Master's thesis consists of four lesson plans (grades 1 to 4), accompanied with handouts and all the materials needed for the implementation of an English lesson in nature.
