Abstract

Magistrska naloga v grobem prispeva k razumevanju evroskepticizma v Severni Makedoniji tekom procesa pridruževanja EU in osvetljuje pomen nematerialnih dejavnikov za razumevanje padca podpore evropski integraciji.

Secondary title: Capturing eurosceptic narratives from below in North Macedonia
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis deals with the factors affecting the trend of the declining public support for North Macedonia's membership in the EU. The main objectives of the master's work were (i) to contextualize the factors of Euroscepticism in North Macedonia and (ii) to shed light on the meaning of the narratives that make sense of the attitudes regarding North Macedonia's membership in the EU. The analysis showed that the challenges related to the cultural frame significantly contributed to the opposition to the EU membership process. In particular, the gradual decline in public support for EU membership over the past ten years has been largely attributed to cultural issues caused by the bilateral disputes with Bulgaria and Greece. The master's thesis broadly contributes to the understanding of Euroscepticism in North Macedonia during the EU accession process and sheds light on the importance of non-material factors for understanding the decline in support for European integration.
