diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract

Personality disorders in relation to criminality |
Secondary abstract: |
The diploma paper discusses the connections between personal disorders and criminal offences, and briefly outlines therapies for delinquents.
Researching the Slovene and foreign professional and scientific sources, we tried to prove the relation between clusters A, B, and C personality disorders and criminal offences. We further tried to show the influence of comorbidity, i, e. combination of several personality disorders and substance abuse on executing criminal offences. We confirmed the connection between criminal offences and clusters A and B personal disorders but could not fully prove it in cases with cluster C personal disorders because these relations have not yet been researched enough and in addition because the cluster C personality disorders are based on fear and anxiety, and they do not lead to criminal offences as often as other personality disorders do. It was presumed and determined that substance use leads to delinquency. We provided some real-life examples that illustrate the above-stated.
Based on the literature review, it can be asserted that the connection between criminal offences and substance use is very substantial. Several studies have confirmed that individuals, who were using substances, also had more psychopathic features and specific personality profiles, and were executing criminal offences.
The diploma paper briefly presents different therapies that could help delinquents to face their inner struggles, discourage them from new delinquent actions, and help them with quicker renewed socialisation. Researching this topic was not planned in the beginning, but the literature research showed its importance, so we decided to include it into the paper. |
