Abstract

Response to domestic violence - a comparison between Slovenia and Portugal |
Secondary abstract: |
Domestic violence is a complex and worrying phenomenon that occurs in the domestic environment and affects all social classes and cultures. This can include psychological, physical, sexual and economic violence. Most often, it happens behind closed doors, which makes it more difficult to detect and, therefore, to take action. Violence can affect people of all ages and genders. The consequences of domestic violence are long-term and serious, so it is important that appropriate measures are used when dealing with both the perpetrator and the victim.
The very recognition and prevention of domestic violence are key to ensuring the safety of victims. This includes raising awareness, education and support for victims, as well as stronger legislation and mechanisms to deal with domestic violence. Just by recognizing and solving the problem, society can create a safer and more supportive environment for all people. In doing so, it is also necessary to be aware of the measures that are set for perpetrators and are key to preventing the repetition of violent acts and to promoting responsible behavior.
The aim of the master thesis is to present what domestic violence is, what types of violence we know and what a cycle of violence is. After reviewing and comparing the legislative regulation of domestic violence in our selected countries, we found that it is very similar. Treatment of perpetrators and measures for them, as well as offering assistance to victims, are carried out by organizations and institutions in both countries in very similar ways. In the following, we also provided data on the number of cases or the incidence of domestic violence in selected countries, where we found that the number of cases in Portugal is actually higher than in Slovenia. At the end, we made a presentation of our interviews, a short discussion and presented our research questions.
Domestic violence is not only a personal problem, but also a social problem that requires active action from all of us. |
