Abstract

Secondary title: Synthesis of copper coordination compounds with pyridinecarbonitriles
Secondary abstract: In the master's thesis, we describe the synthesis and characterization of new copper coordination compounds, using copper salts as the source of copper and pyridine carbonitriles as the source of ligands. We also described the synthesis and characterization of some known structures that we managed to synthesize. We synthesized four new coordination compounds: [Cu2(μ-Ac)4(3-PCN)2], [Cu(H2O)(NO3)(PIC)2]NO3, [Cu(H2O)2(EtPIC)2]NO3, and [Cu(NO3)2(CH3CN)(4-PCN)]·CH3CN. In addition to these, we also succeeded in synthesizing several known compounds, such as [Cu 2(C2H3O2)4(C6H4N2)2], fg, and rtger. The first compound, [Cu2(μ-Ac)4(3-PCN)2], was synthesized in an aqueous environment from copper(II) acetate monohydrate and 3-pyridinecarbonitrile. The second and third compounds, [Cu(H2O)(NO3)(PIC)2]NO3 and [Cu(H2O)2(EtPIC)2]NO3, were synthesized from copper(II) nitrate trihydrate and 2-pyridinecarbonitrile. The difference was in the solvent used. Water was used for the first compound, and ethanol was used for the second. We synthesized the yet-to-be-discovered compound, [Cu(NO3)2(CH3CN)(4-PCN)]·CH3CN, from copper(II) nitrate trihydrate and 4-pyridinecarbonitrile, using acetonitrile as the solvent. The syntheses were carried out at room temperature and using reflux at the boiling point of the solvent. We determined the molecular structures of the complexes through single-crystal X-ray diffraction. We also performed infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry.
