Abstract

Anketiranci so imeli večinoma pozitiven odnos do evtanazije.

Secondary title: Attitudes towards Euthanasia as Assistance and the Right to Dignified Death – Situation in the Republic of Slovenia
Secondary abstract: The term “euthanasia” was first used in antiquity. Its definition has evolved and developed over the centuries. Today, euthanasia is commonly understood as a peaceful or good death. Euthanasia has been an increasing topic nowadays. When the subject of euthanasia or its potential legalization arises, it divides public opinion. Both proponents and opponents present a range of arguments to justify their positions. The most common arguments pointed out by the supporters are prevention of pain and suffering, autonomy, and dignity. The opponents often point out that abuse may happen too quickly and that human life is inviolable. In the first section, we have described the concept of euthanasia, traced its historical development, explored the various types of euthanasia known today, examined the arguments both for and against it, and presented the legal regulation of euthanasia. In the second section, through an anonymous survey, we investigated the prevailing sentiment in Slovenia regarding euthanasia. Based on the survey results, it is evident that the majority of the Slovenian public supports the legalization of euthanasia. Specifically, 61% of respondents expressed support for euthanasia, while 66% endorsed its legalization. The participants mostly had a positive attitude towards euthanasia.
