The master's thesis focuses on the issue of talent management in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Slovenia which, despite their significant role in the economy, are not adequately explored areas for such management. Initially, through the theoretical part, we examine the concept of talent management, defined as the systematic attraction, identification, development, engagement, and retention of individuals who bring special value to the organization. However, SMEs face specific challenges in attracting and retaining talent due to their limited resources, centralized management, and lower level of professionalism. Subsequently, the empirical part follows based on conducted anonymous interviews with managers from various organizations.
The master's thesis aims to investigate the opinions of managers in SMEs in Slovenia regarding the recognition and management of talents and their readiness for development in this area. The objectives of the thesis include determining the viewpoints of managers, presenting various aspects of talent management, exploring the reasons for ineffective talent recognition and retention, and reviewing existing practices and possible solutions to improve this area.
The results reveal that talent management has become a crucial tool for organizations, regardless of their size. Organizations are increasingly aware of the importance of recognizing, developing, attracting, and retaining key talents as a fundamental source of competitive advantage.
The research emphasizes that SMEs in Slovenia face specific challenges, such as limited human resources, a lack of structured processes, and restricted access to current talent management approaches. Nevertheless, organizations have demonstrated efforts to implement activities, such as mentoring, training, education, and improving working conditions, which contribute to talent development and retention.
We also highlight the need for further research and innovative approaches to manage talents in SMEs more effectively. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of developing guidelines and practical solutions to assist SMEs in Slovenia in better managing their talents. Comprehensive research and practical work in this field could contribute to improving the competitiveness and sustainable growth of SMEs and the entire Slovenian economy. |
