Abstract

Uporabili smo domačo in tujo strokovno literaturo.

Secondary title: Recognition of stroke symptoms and first aid among young people in Pomurje
Secondary abstract: Introduction: The survival rate in case of a stroke outside of a hospital heavily depends on the early detection of symptoms and the eyewitnesses’ response. According to data from the literature, stroke is the upcoming epidemic of the 21st century. Another thing we could conclude from analyzing the literature is that people lack the courage and knowledge they need to help those in need, although, by law, they are obliged to provide first aid. Purpose: This thesis aims to present the symptoms and research the knowledge of those symptoms and first aid in case of a stroke among the young people of Pomurje (North-East Slovenia). Methods of work: In this thesis, we used the descriptive method in the theoretical and quantitative methodology in the empirical part. A survey that will help research the knowledge of symptoms and signs of a stroke will be carried out in the empirical part. The survey was spread out exclusively among young people (ages 16-26) who live in Pomurje. They will be invited to participate in the survey through social media channels. In this thesis, we used domestic as well as foreign literature. The survey was conducted from April 15, 2023, to April 25, 2023, with the help of the online portal 1KA. Results: 70 people participated in the survey, 37 (53%) women and 33 (47%) men. The average age was 21.9 years. With the help of this survey, we got a better overview of knowledge on stroke among young people of Pomurje. We could also compare the knowledge among laymen with the knowledge of people who identified themselves as health workers. Dissertation and conclusion: We concluded that the young people of Pomurje have a good knowledge of the symptoms of a stroke and that most of them would provide help in case they witness an emergency. The knowledge of the interviewees has ranged from bad to good, but overall, we can say that it is good. The question that seemed to be the most problematic, both for laymen as well as health workers, was the one about transient ischemic attack. However, we noticed health workers have a better understanding of what the abbreviation GROM (FAST) means, while laymen turned out to lack knowledge about this topic.
