Abstract

Secondary abstract: The curricula for the subject Slovene at various levels and in different programmes usually offer some room for learning about dialects. Unfortunately, there is often not enough time to dedicate more attention to this area and use this opportunity for correcting the pupils’ orthopeic deviations from the norms of the standard language. In secondary schools, where classes are heterogenous with regard to the provenance of the students, it is possible to compare different dialects and thus sharpen the students’ ability to recognise and listen to different local variants and establish their special features. By dealing with dialect words that are disappearing from use but are understood by pupils it is possible to reach various teaching and educational goals. The article throws light on a number of didactic experiences and draws attention to the obstacles that are most difficult to overcome.
