Secondary title: | A parametric study of the radial stiffness of a vascular stent |
Secondary abstract: | Vascular stents are crucial in the treatment of the heart and blood vessels, as they strengthen diseased blood vessels, restore blood flow and provide support to the vessel. Radial stiffness turns out to be a key parameter for vascular stents, as it directly affects their performance. The master's thesis investigates the relationship between the radial stiffness and the geometric parameters of the individual support ring of the vascular stent. Parametric modeling with the open-source program Gmsh was used to create different configurations of support rings in two different geometric variants. Numerical simulations using the finite element method in the program LS-DYNA were performed to study the compression of the configurations in the radial direction. The analysis focuses on monitoring trends in reaction forces with changing geometric parameters of the support ring. The results show significant differences in radial stiffness between geometric variants. Trends of increasing reaction forces with changing values of the geometric parameters are also noticeable. |
