diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract

Attitudes of the inhabitants of the Republic of Slovenia towards terrorism |
Secondary abstract: |
Terrorism is a part of history of almost every country in the world and is in the modern times one of the bigger threats to international security, which consequentially does not exclude Slovenia. For this reason, this paper mainly focuses on the question how Slovenian society perceives terrorism as an international security threat. Public opinion on the threat causes shows that the inhabitants of Republic of Slovenia do not interpret terrorism as something that has significant influence over Slovenian state security but are instead worried about other threat sources. This fact puts Slovenia into unique position among other European states, which interpret terrorism as very severe threat source. In spite the public opinion in Slovenia, the Slovenian state needs to follow certain international security policies instated to prevent terrorism. One of the topics of research in this diploma paper is also influence of the media on the opinion of Slovenian inhabitants, as the media presents the topic of terrorism. It is a well-known fact that the media can be a powerful tool, which can be used by the terrorist organizations to their own ends, as they strive for the media to cover their activities as widely as possible in other to cause fear in as many people as possible. The other side of media reporting, where the media increases their profits through reporting on terrorism. The research that we have performed indicates another influence on the opinion of Slovenes on terrorism. This influence is illegal migration, despite there not being concrete evidence of this type of activity actually influencing terrorism within a state. |
