Abstract

Secondary title: Violence against healthcare employees in the emergency center
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Violence against employees in healthcare by patients and relatives is a global concern worldwide. In recent years, there has been an increase in both verbal and physical violence in emergency centers. And so emergency centers are defined as workplaces with a high risk of violence, and nurses employed in emergency services are most exposed to violence and stress. The purpose of the master's work is to investigate violence against employees in an emergency center. Methods: In the final part, we used a quantitative research method. We used a survey questionnaire as a data collection method. The research sample consisted of 70 survey questionnaires, which we distributed among nursing care providers in the emergency center in Celje. We used t-test for two independent samples and ANOVA-test to determine differences between several groups for data processing. Results: There is a high level of contact with violence among the nursing staff in the emergency center. Most employees experience violence on a weekly basis. Employees are of the opinion that this is mostly due to the impatience of patients and their relatives and excessively long waiting lines. Discussion and conclusion: The findings show that violence in emergency centers is on the rise both in the world and in Slovenia. It is important to adopt approaches and methods of communication by nursing staff, as this can reduce the possibility of violence.
