Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis of wild fires in the Kras region from 2000 to 2022
Secondary abstract: Wildfires pose an ever-increasing danger to humans as well as to nature and the economy. One of the most fire-endangered areas in Slovenia is the area of »south« Karst, which covers the area of the municipalities of Divača, Hrpelje-Kozina, Komen and Sežana. In this area, a professional fire department, the Sežana Fire and Rescue Service Institute, is organized along side Karst Fire Union. With joint forces, proper equipment, and training, good prevention, and action in the event of wildfires are guaranteed in this area. With the help of data analysis and the correlation between them, we found that the two parameters that most influence the number of wildfires in the Karst Fire Union area are: relative humidity and the number of warm days. This means that any change in these two parameters would mean a change in the number of wildfires and consequently also in the burned area. We have found that with the decrease in the number of wildfires in this area, the burned area increases. This can be attributed to the warming of the atmosphere and longer and longer dry periods.
