Secondary abstract: | The problem of hierophany as the sacred union between Earth and the cosmos often appears in Šeligo's work and is particularly striking in the novella Gallusova hči from the collection of short prose Uslišani spomin. The presence of hierophany has a broader significance in Šeligo's novel. The author wishes foremost to call attention to forgotten emotion in these modern times of stict rationalism, in which the omnipotence of nature has been destroyed because of violent interference with the eternal order of the cosmos. Hierophany as the holy union of the powerful forces of nature searches for admirers in our times, new Dionysuses, who will bring into cold rationalism a new ethic - the ethic of compassion. |
