Abstract

V diplomskem delu smo ga poimenovali gospod Janez. Z njim smo izvedli pet poglobljenih polstrukturiranih intervjujev ter prikazali njegovo življenjsko zgodbo. Dodatne podatke smo dobili z metodo triangulacije. Delo na Zvezi paraplegikov Slovenije in Društvu paraplegikov ljubljanske pokrajine, predvsem urejanje spletne strani Zveze paraplegikov Slovenije predstavlja velik del njegove okupacijske identitete in kompetence.

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂlife of a person with spinal cord injury from the perspective of Model of human occupation
Secondary abstract: Introduction: A spinal cord injury causes permanent motor and sensory impairment and has long-term effects on a person's functioning and quality of life. Despite permanent disabilities, studies with people with spinal cord injury show that support of environmental factors and the feeling of inclusion can help them have satisfying and fulfilling lives. Purpose: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to present the life of a person with a spinal cord injury from the perspective of the Human occupation model; to present the life of a person with a spinal cord injury from the perspective of the Human occupation model; to present the occupational identity and competence of the person, the adaptation of the occupation to the circumstances that hindered or supported the person after the spinal cord injury. Methods: We used an interview about the person's occupational history. The participant was a male, who suffered a spinal cord injury that resulted in tetraplegia. In the thesis, we included a semi-structured interview and the life story. For further research, we used the method of triangulation. Based on the analysis of the interviews, question guides were formulated for the participant's son, wife and colleague. A deductive approach was used for coding. Results: Six categories emerged from the analysis, namely: user identity before the injury, occupational competence before the injury, user identity after the injury, occupational competence after injury, occupational adjustment and environment. The categories are divided into 24 subcategories. Working at the Slovenian Paraplegic Assosiation and the Association of Paraplegics of the Ljubljana Region, especially the editing of the Slovenian Paraplegic Assosiation website, represents a large part of the user's occupational identity and competence. Occupational adaptation was carried out through adaptations of the occupation implementation and a number of tools. The physical environment has proved to be supportive for the most part, and the participant has enormous social support. Discussion and conclusion: After his injury, Mr. Janez found an occupation that forms a large part of his daily life. A number of adaptations and aids help to make the person's life as independent and as good as possible. The physical and social environment also have an impact on independent living. The participant in our research has proved that he can live a full life despite his spinal cord injury.
