Secondary title: Analysis of Platform-as-a-Service model and cloud application development on Google App Engine
Secondary abstract: In the thesis we discuss the Platform as a Service (PaaS) model. It is one of the three service delivery models of cloud computing, intended for developing and running applications in the cloud. The introductory chapter presents main concepts and advantages of cloud computing, as well as a description and comparison between all three models, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). The main part of the thesis includes a detailed description of the PaaS model, its characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, the comparison with a traditional model of application development and the current trends in this field. There is also the description of the multitenancy model, an essential concept of cloud applications, and the description and comparison between the four approaches of its implementation. A separate chapter features an analysis of the PaaS market and a description and comparison of the chosen four providers and their cloud platforms: Microsoft Windows Azure, Salesforce.com Force.com, Amazon Web Services Elastic Beanstalk and Google App Engine. On the latter, we have developed and deployed an example of a Java web application. In the final chapter we describe the challenges we encountered while developing the web application on the Google App Engine platform and give our opinion on the future of PaaS.
