Secondary title: Data transfer performance analysis according to the 802.11n standard
Secondary abstract: In this thesis we introduce the 802.11 wireless networks, their evolution, characteristics and main differences in comparison to wired networks. We discuss specific types of networks and their application. We take a look at the protocols, which serve as the foundation for the 802.11 standards and explain some of the more prominent notions, such as the signal-to-noise ratio, signal attenuation and interference. We briefly pay attention to signal modulations and the use of frequency bands, list the main aspects and differences between the 802.11 standards and finally focus on the 802.11n. We present the improvements and methods, which are introduced and promised by the standard. We follow this up by taking a critical approach towards the tests, with which we performed the analysis of the 802.11g and 802.11n data transfer capability. We discuss the measuring procedures and present various technologies used during our research. We show, interpret and explain the results in the best way possible and conclude by listing the factors with the biggest influence on our results, as well as defining the possible improvements of our tests.
