Abstract

Secondary title: Conceptual Design for the Revitalisation of the Former Uljanik Shipyard Complex in Pula
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis explores the revitalization of the former Uljanik Shipyard complex in Pula. The project focuses on the question of revitalizing and redesigning the shipyard port area on Uljanik Island, aiming to create a new urban center for the city. Uljanik Island is envisioned as a potential focal point of urban life, preserving its industrial heritage associated with shipbuilding tradition, with the existing facilities being surrounded by new structures and thus forming a new whole. The thesis focuses on the dialogue between the old and the new, highlighting the importance of inclusive and accessible public spaces. The motivation for the project stems from the trend of tourism development in Pula, which threatens the identity and quality of life of the local population. The design highlights the significance of this valuable shipyard area in the city center and aims to reconnect it with the residents, thereby creating a new dynamic in this part of the city and restoring the connection with the sea.
