Abstract

Secondary title: The violence against men in intimate partner relationships
Secondary abstract: Violence is the deliberate use of physical force, power, or threat of physical force or power against another person, group, or community. One of the types of violence is violence against men that occurs in the workplace, war zones, prisons, and family or intimate partner relationships. A literature review shows that men in an intimate partner relationship can be victims of psychological, physical, economic, and sexual violence, neglect, and stalking; an extreme form of violence is murder. We can see the causes of violence in the dynamics of the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator since violence is, in some cases, a response to one's victimization. The perpetrators are between 40 and 44 years old. They may be characterized by dysfunctional growing up (e.g., past victimization), mental health problems, experiencing stress, lack of communication skills, and alcohol abuse. Victims are between 35 and 54 years old. Some victims have been (in)direct victims of domestic violence in the past but often have health problems. In diploma thesis, we were interested in which type of violence against men in intimate partnership relationships is most common in Slovenia, whether there is a relation between gender and the experience of intimate partner violence, and whether there is a relation between gender and the type of intimate partner violence that a person experiences. In the research, we used secondary data from the already conducted research on violence in the private environment by 2020 and performed statistical analysis. At 5% risk, we found that less than 50% of men reveal psychological violence, that there is a relationship between gender and experiencing intimate partner violence, and that there is a relationship between gender and the type of intimate partner violence that a person experiences.
