Abstract

Poleg tega živahno študentsko življenje, polno zabav in druženj, spodbuja skušnjavo eksperimentiranja s takšnimi substancami.

Secondary title: Consumption and consequences of illicit substances among students
Secondary abstract: Amidst the many social and personal challenges that students in higher education face, the issue of using illicit substances stands out. The spread of illicit substances markets and the various pressures, difficulties, and problems young people encounter contribute to making this behaviour more accessible and tempting. Additionally, the higher education lifestyle, full of parties, socializing, and late-night activities, exposes young adults to the temptation of experimenting with such substances. The consequences of this behaviour can be severe, including addiction, deteriorating health, decreased academic performance, and potential legal issues. In our thesis, we investigate the prevalence of illicit substance use among students at higher education institutions in Ljubljana, focusing on understanding the causes and identifying the consequences of such behavior. We compared data obtained through a survey questionnaire with existing research. The results indicate a high proportion of students who have tried illicit substances. Various factors, such as curiosity, peer pressure, and the stress of the academic environment, significantly influence their decision to use illicit substances. The consequences of this behaviour negatively affect academic success, interpersonal relationships, and psychological well-being. In the concluding part of the thesis, we have also confirmed the impact of the availability of illicit substances on their use frequency among students. The overall conclusion highlights the complexity of the issue of illicit substance use within the student population and emphasizes the necessity of developing comprehensive prevention programs that consider the various factors and consequences of such behavior.
