Abstract

Secondary title: Income and wealth inequality in selected countries
Secondary abstract: Income and wealth inequality are complex problems that all countries of the world face in different dimensions. It is a social phenomenon that manifests itself at different levels in the country and affects economic development and productivity. In our thesis, we analyzed and presented economic situation and income and wealth inequality in Germany, Japan and the United States. We found that, despite their high level of development, countries differ considerably in levels of income and wealth inequality. Using the EViews 13 program, we then estimated income inequality functions for all three countries. We also analysed the estimated functions and checked the adequacy of their specification and the validity of the assumptions of the least squares method. Our empirical estimations show, that income inequality in Germany is dependent on real economic growth from two years ago and the Gini coefficient in the previous year. In the Japanese model, we observed that income inequality is dependent on unemployment, average real income, and the Gini coefficient from previous year. Income inequality in the United States is dependent on real economic growth from three years ago, average real income, and the Gini coefficient over from previous period.
