Abstract

Secondary title: Sexual violence against children and adolescents in the era of the internet and social networks
Secondary abstract: The master's thesis addresses the issue of online sexual violence among students at Slovenian universities. Online violence is a complex phenomenon that affects many young people and leaves long-lasting consequences. In the theoretical part of the thesis, key concepts such as sexual violence, its forms, and consequences for children and adolescents are defined. Special attention was given to online harassment, online sexual extortion, unsolicited sending of sexual content, and other forms of online violence. In the empirical part, we focused on analyzing students' experiences with online sexual violence. The study was based on a sample of 182 students from various faculties. The results showed that 35% of participants experienced some form of online sexual violence. Further findings revealed that women are statistically significantly more exposed to online sexual violence than men, confirming the sexual differentiation of risk. The study also confirmed that the largest share of sexual harassment or abuse online is experienced by adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age, highlighting the vulnerability of this age group. The analysis showed a weak positive correlation between increasing age and first exposure to violence. Considering that most children and adolescents will encounter some form of online sexual violence in their lives, we believe it is essential to include awareness of these dangers as a mandatory component of educational programs.
