Abstract

Secondary title: Land use changes in selected cadastral municipalities in the area of Slovenian Styria between 1789 and 2023
Secondary abstract: This master’s thesis presents the process of land use changes in four cadastral municipalities: Dornava, Brezovec, Lenart, and Hrastje - Mota. The primary material of the study is the Josephine cadastre (1789-1790), which was first analysed as a historical source. I analyzed the status of landowners, their names, surnames, yield land sizes, and the tax they were required to pay. Then, I analysed it as a geographical source focusing on land use data and comparing it with the Franciscan cadastre (1824) and data from the years 2000 and 2023, obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Transport database. Other cartographic and descriptive sources were also used to supplement the study. An analysis of land use was carried out for the years 1789, 1824, 1900, 2000, and 2023. This was followed by an analysis of the direction of land use changes between the years 1824 and 2000, and between 2000 and 2023. In the last chapter, an analysis of land use in each cadastral municipality in all periods was carried out. In Dornava, the focus was on the impacts of the regulation of the Pesnica River, the expansion of the Dornava settlement, and the construction of the railway line on land use. For the Brezovec area, located in the Haloze region, recently known for deagrarisation and overgrowth, I was interested in the rate of abandonment of cultivated land. In Lenart, I focused on the apparent expansion of built-up areas and which lands have been reduced in size as a result. In Hrastje - Mota, I was interested in how the landscape and consequently land use changed due to extensive regulations of the Mura River.
