Secondary title: | Production of Higgs bosons and top quark pairs at hadron colliders as tests of top Yukawa coupling |
Secondary abstract: | The largest and at the same time one of the least experimentally determined couplings of the standard model of elementary particles and interactions is the so-called Yukawa coupling between the top quark and the Higgs boson ($y_\mathrm{t}$). Within the standard model, $y_\mathrm{t}$ is closely related to the mass of the top quark, but this relationship can be violated in extensions of the standard model. In such cases, considering the electroweak gauge invariance and methods of effective field theory, we can predict the existence of a new, yet unobserved process — the simultaneous production of pairs of Higgs bosons and top and anti-top quarks in hadron colliders. The topic of this master's thesis is the theoretical examination of the main characteristics of this process at the Large Hadron Collider and the projection of sensitivity to $y_\mathrm{t}$ using analytical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. |
