Abstract

Secondary title: Development of an experimental process system to study interactions in film coating of tablets
Secondary abstract: The tablet film coating process is essential to improve tablet properties such as the efficiency of delivery of active ingredients, the removal of unpleasant odour or taste, and the improvement of the stability of the active ingredients. In this thesis, the development of an experimental process system for the study of interactions in tablet film coating is addressed. Using the developed experimental system, which included a drop dispenser, a temperature-controlled chamber and a high-speed camera, we monitored the processes at the microscopic level, including the effects of temperature, droplet size and frequency of deposition, in the study of the interactions between the coating droplet and the tablet surface, and addressed the process of heat and material transfer in the deposition of droplets on the tablet surface through the analysis of the penetration of moisture into and out of the tablet. The impact of droplet volume and co-coating agent on the width, depth and wetting area of the tablet is analysed.
