Abstract

Secondary title: Conceptual design of a airport and recreation zone Cerovlje
Secondary abstract: The master’s thesis deals with the topic of the construction of an airport with accompanying program in the town of Cerovlje in central Istria, Croatia. The problem of marginalization of investment in sports airports in Croatia was the basis for the development of a new approach to a concept of a modern sports airport. The location was 100 years ago, except Pula, place where the first industry was developed in Croatian Istria, and the architectural character of the city developed equally between industrial and residential architecture. The proposed conceptual project of the airport is developed in the space between micro-locational materiality and industrial architecture, or lets say the generic non-architecture of airport elements. Similar to the program, the complex combines direct and indirect users of the airport by adding a program in the interest of the local community. The spatial location encourages the possible revitalization of the industrial zone and creates the basis for further development of the area in a spatial, programmatic and touristic context. Based on the architectural concept, the contact between built and nature is defined as a spatial desire to absorb the built into the unbuilt with the goal of creating a harmonious whole. The project, which can be defined as a point of intersection/combination on several levels (in addition to the aforementioned morphological and traffic), gives the space an opportunity for new development and in a way creates a boundary between what the space is now and what it can become, micro-locationally, regionally and even more widely.
