Abstract

Secondary title: Mentoring of nursing students in the clinical enviromment
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Mentorship is crucial for nursing education, yet the perspective of mentors remains under-researched. This study explores mentorship in the clinical setting. The aim of the research was to gain insight into how clinical mentors perceive clinical mentorship, as previous studies have primarily focused on students' views. Methods: A quantitative study was conducted using surveys with a convenience sample of clinical mentors of various educational backgrounds and work experience. To assess the normality of variable distribution, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used. To analyze differences in perceptions based on demographic factors, the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test and the chi-square test were applied. Results: Mentors highly value trust, mutual interaction, and equality in their relationships with students. They assess the pedagogical atmosphere and their role in creating the learning environment positively. Differences based on education and experience were minimal, with the exception of mentors with higher education levels, who expressed lower satisfaction with the learning environment. Discussion and Conclusion: Mentorship plays a vital role in supporting students during the transition from theory to practice. Although the results are consistent with international findings, they highlight systemic challenges within the clinical environment. Future research should examine institutional factors to improve mentoring practices.
