In this master's thesis, we defined and implemented an approach to exploring the cultural heritage of traditional farming tasks, customs, and practices. This approach enables pupils not only to understand and experience the content first-hand, but also to meet the learning objectives outlined in the national curriculum. Through experiential learning, pupils acquire knowledge drawn from real-life situations based on tangible, hands-on experiences. These experiences allow them to engage meaningfully with the cultural legacy of our ancestors. A "Day on the Farm" activity provides valuable opportunities for teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving, while also achieving the curriculum objectives for the Social Studies subject in the 4th grade. The theoretical part of the thesis first focuses on defining the subject of Social Studies, including its general and operational goals, learning standards, didactic recommendations, and teaching methods. This is followed by a conceptual discussion of cultural heritage and traditional farm life-covering aspects such as work, leisure, and food. The practical part of the thesis centres on the planning (which includes detailed lesson plans), implementation, and evaluation of the "Day on the Farm" activity. The activity began with an introductory lesson at school, continued with a visit to the Vešner Homestead, included workshops on traditional farming tasks, and concluded back at school. Throughout the day, pupils completed a portfolio containing worksheets and, at the end, wrote reflections capturing their impressions, thoughts, and feelings about the experience. These reflections provided valuable insights that contributed to the conclusions of the thesis. |
