diplomsko delo
Abstract
Informacije so bile pridobljene s pregledovanjem domače in tuje strokovne literature, uporabljeni so bili prispevki, zborniki, članki, objave in monografije v slovenskem in angleškem jeziku. Podatke smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, MEDLINE, Cobiss in Google Učenjak. Skupno je bilo uporabljenih 29 virov. Rezultati: V rezultatih so s pomočjo grafikonov prikazane vrednosti primerov po spolu, starosti, razvojnem obdobju zobovja, razredu Anglove klasifikacije in stopnji okluzijske nepravilnosti.

Assessment of malocclusion using EF and EFO index |
| Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Orthodontics is an expertise in dentistry which studies growth of the facial area, development of dentition and the occlusal relation, and the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of occlusal irregularities (Littlewood et al., 2019). Prevalence of dental and jaw abnormalities data obtained through screening and epidemiological studies show us that the need for orthodontic treatment increases by the year. These objective quantative data enables health workers to be effective and perform their duties with high quality. To measure the quality of orthodontic treatment with a single score experts have designed several different occlusal indices. Some of the most commonly used are Angle's classification, Björk's method, Occlusal index, Peer Assessment Rating and Index of Complexity, Outcome and Need, which we will also describe in the next chapters. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to introduce and explain the basic orthodontic concepts, the origin and types of malocclusions, methods of identifying and measuring different levels of occlusion abnormalities and to present advantages and disadvantages of each individual method and the circumstances of its formation through an overview of technical literature. The results acquired with the selected methods, EF and EFO index, will be presented with practical examples. Methods: In the theoretical part of this thesis the descriptive method was used. Information was obtained through a review of local and foreign technical literature, data was pulled from articles, collections of scientific papers, publications and monographs in Slovenian and English language. Search databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, Cobiss and Google Scholar were used to gain information on the topic. Altogether, 29 sources were used. Results: Graphs were used to present values of selected cases by gender, age, developmental period of the dentition, class of Angle's classification and level of malocclusion. The results show us that on average the EFO method is less time consuming than the EF method. Discussion and conclusion: Over the years different methods for identification and measurement of occlusal irregularities have been invented in response to the growing demand for orthodontic treatment. Two modified methods were established in the Slovenian orthodontic profession in the past decades, the EF and EFO index. Both methods have proven themselves convenient for everyday use in the work of an orthodontic specialist. |
