diplomsko delo

Abstract

Secondary title: Adventages and disadventages of student work
Secondary abstract: The thesis explores the topic of student employment, which is an important part of everyday life for many students. The focus is on examining how this form of employment affects students' lives and the role it plays in the broader social and economic context. The theoretical part presents key concepts, the legal framework of student work, and the advantages and disadvantages that both students and employers face. The empirical part includes data collected through a survey conducted among Slovenian students, which provides insight into their experiences, perspectives, and challenges. The results show that students generally do not have the same working conditions as regular employees, as they are not entitled to certain rights such as meal allowances, transportation reimbursement, or contributions toward pensionable service. The findings also reveal that student work partly contributes to gaining useful experience and skills, though this largely depends on the nature of the work and the industry. Its impact on academic performance also varies — while some students manage to successfully balance work and study, others face stress and delays in completing academic tasks due to work obligations. Based on the findings, the conclusion is that student work offers many benefits, but also comes with numerous risks. Many students work out of financial necessity, yet they are often insufficiently protected and poorly informed about their rights. This thesis highlights the need for better regulation of student employment, greater awareness among students, and more responsible practices from employers. Only then can student work truly serve as a stepping stone toward the personal and professional growth of young people.
