Abstract

V diplomskem delu sem raziskovala slikanico kot sredstvo spodbujanja govorno-jezikovnega razvoja v predšolskem obdobju.

Secondary title: Picture book as a tool for promoting speech and language development in the preschool period
Secondary abstract: In my dissertation, I analysed the picture book as a tool for promoting language development at pre-school age. I chose this topic because in this day and age, more and more time is spent in front of screens and digital devices. I believe that it is important for both children and older readers to rediscover the value and enjoyment of simple activities such as reading picture books. In my dissertation, I focused on familiarity with picture books as a means of promoting language development in preschool children. It is important that both parents and educators recognise the importance of picture books as a child's first. book, as they form the basis for later understanding and interest in literature. In the theoretical part, I first outlined the theoretical framework of speech and language development in children, explained the effects of picture books on children's speech and language development and presented the picture book as a didactic tool as well as pedagogical approaches that influence children's speech and language development. I also introduced different types of picture books, the elements of a picture book, the characteristics of high-quality picture books, the role of adults in promoting picture book reading and the influence of cultural diversity and social interaction on picture books. In the empirical part, I presented and interpreted the results of the questionnaire both graphically and descriptively. The aim of the study was to find out how familiar the teachers are with picture books, which ones they use in their practise and how they integrate them into every day kindergarten life. I found that the teachers are quite familiar with picture books and use them frequently and in a variety of ways in their work. With the second questionnaire, I wanted to find out what parents think of picture books, how often they use them and how they incorporate them into their everyday lives. The results show that, on average, the parents surveyed agree on the importance of picture books in the preschool years.
