Abstract

V nadaljevanju naloga ponuja podrobno predstavitev Logatca, njegovega zgodovinskega razvoja, geografske lege, demografskih značilnosti in drugih prostorskih danosti.

Secondary title: Revitalization of the suburban center of Logatec with applying urban planning principles of open public space and designing community center
Secondary abstract: This master’s thesis addresses the challenges posed by the expansion of suburban fabric, which today represents a predominant living environment for an increasingly large portion of the population. The central aim of the thesis is to investigate patterns of suburban spatial formation in the case of Logatec, and to identify the key issues of suburbia through graphic analysis. The theoretical part includes an overview of urban design principles, which—combined with the identified challenges of contemporary suburbia—form the basis for the development of principles for designing a high-quality suburban environment. The thesis continues with a detailed presentation of the town of Logatec, focusing on its historical development, geographical position, demographic features, and other spatial characteristics. The selected intervention area is analyzed in terms of its spatial integration within the settlement, structural layout, programmatic content, and existing spatial quality. The design proposal applies the developed principles at three scales: scale L addresses the entire settlement of Logatec, scale M focuses on the town center, while scale S provides an architectural solution for a specific urban program — a market and a community center. The analysis reveals that patterns of suburban development are strongly influenced by the prevailing economic system, which significantly shapes both spatial planning processes and social relations today. Due to market-driven development, suburban areas often lack urban-generating functions and open living spaces that could provide a high-quality environment and support community development. The thesis responds to these challenges through the implementation of programs such as a market and a community center, which meaningfully address the identified spatial and social needs.
