Abstract

Secondary title: Comparison of eary childhood intervention for children with special needs: a case study
Secondary abstract: The thesis is based on studying the process of early treatment of two children with special needs in a kindergarten. With the assistance of interviews and studying the professional documentation we tried to gain insight into the process of early treatment of both children and examine what role is played by individual members of the multidisciplinary team. In the theoretical part of the master thesis, children with special needs are presented as is the process of early treatment in the kindergarten and its meaning for a child with special needs and his family. The empirical part is bringing results of a case study of early treatment of two children with special needs that are enrolled in the same kindergarten, run according to the adjusted treatment and additional professional assistance programme. We conducted an interview with both kindergarten teachers, teacher for early treatment, a counsellor, and both parents. We also studied the professional documentation in personal files of children with special needs that are kept by the kindergarten. We established that the two processes of early treatment we studied and compared mostly ran a similar course. After the gathered data we reached a conclusion that one of the mentioned processes of early treatment ran more intensively than the other and that all the members of the multidisciplinary team during their work pursued their goals to improve a child's functioning, and especially his satisfaction and well-being.
