Abstract

Zaključno delo obravnava prometno varnost voznikov enoslednih motornih vozil v urbanem in ruralnem okolju. V urbanem okolju so najpogosteje omenjeni gost promet, nepregledna križišča in nepozornost drugih udeležencev. Vidnost v prometu ostaja problem, saj večina uporablja temno opremo brez odsevnih elementov. Na podlagi ugotovitev so podani predlogi ukrepov za izboljšanje prometne varnosti motoristov. Ti vključujejo boljše vzdrževanje in načrtovanje cestne infrastrukture, večjo prometno kulturo in strpnost udeležencev, strožji nadzor nad kršitvami ter dodatna usposabljanja in preventivne kampanje.

Secondary title: Comparative analysis of powered-two-wheelers traffic accidents in urban and rural environments
Secondary abstract: The thesis addresses the issue of road safety of powered two-wheeler (PTW) riders in urban and rural environments. The purpose of the research was to analyse the differences between both environments and to identify the key factors influencing the occurrence of motorcycle accidents. The analysis was based on data from the Slovenian Traffic Safety Agency (AVP) for the period 2019–2023 and was complemented by a survey conducted among 94 motorcycle and moped riders. The results of the statistical analysis show that 66.9% of accidents occur in urban areas, but the consequences are usually more severe in rural areas. An important finding is that motorcyclists are responsible for an average of 60% of accidents, with the highest proportion of offenders coming from the 35–54 age group, which also represents the largest share of active riders. The most common cause of accidents is inappropriate speed, while the most frequent types of accidents are vehicle overturning and side collisions. The survey revealed that riders generally feel safer in rural areas, where they most often perceive high speeds, poor road quality, and the presence of animals on the road as the main risks. In urban areas, the most frequently mentioned dangers are heavy traffic, blind intersections, and the inattentiveness of other road users. The most dangerous mistakes by other drivers were identified as mobile phone use, failure to yield, and turning without indicators. The analysis of riders’ habits regarding protective equipment showed that most use full gear consistently in rural areas, while this share is significantly lower in urban areas. Nevertheless, almost half of the respondents admitted that they occasionally omitted protective equipment due to heat or discomfort. Visibility also remains a problem, as the majority use dark gear without reflective elements. Based on the findings, several measures are proposed to improve motorcycle safety. These include better maintenance and planning of road infrastructure, stronger traffic culture and tolerance among road users, stricter enforcement of violations, and additional training and preventive campaigns.
