Secondary title: | Understanding politics and trust in politicians |
Secondary abstract: | The paper is a section from a more extensive study in which author outlines values toward democratic system in Slovenia, based on the results of various empirical surveys fielded after democratic elections (1990) and gaining independence. The analysis relates to the results of an extensive Western European study 'Beliefs in Government'. In the paper the author outlines attitudes toward politics, which are predominately critical and negative. Based on a longitudinal data on popularity of leading political personalities in Slovenia (a 10 year period) he designs the following typology of politicians: an integrative type (searches for consensus), confrontive type and marginal type. In Slovenian context, the integrative type is characterized by high political position and middle-left orientation. The confrontive type is characterized by oppositional role and middle-right position. |
