Secondary abstract: | The author takes a critical stance toward cognitive and behavioural social-psychological attitude theories which conceptualize attitudes as inner dispositions in individual's heads. Such conceptualizations of attitudes as mental states or isolated evaluations of objects hold some problematic assumptions. Attitudes are part of daily life and are shaped and argued over in everyday conversations. The author leans on discursive and rhetorical approach which do not treat attitudes as inner states but instead analyse themas expression of opnions in terms of discursive actions. Since the idea ofattitudes as inner predispositions which guide interpretations and behaviourin situated interactions cannot be invalidated the author is in favour of applicability of this construct as a measurement technique. She defends multi-methodological approach to attitude measurement because it does take into consideration the complexity of attitudes. |
