Abstract

At evident transformation of our space the author questions the actual social role of the experts, starting from the fact that urbanism, as an interdisciplinary activity is also a part of social sciences. In contemporary changes one has to seek reasons, taking into account factors, processes, structures and paradigms that lead those changes. The notion and the character of the city as a social-spatial phenomenon are changing, opening the question of character and possibilities of contemporary urbanism. There are new views on the condition and development of urbanist theory. And urbanist practice has to be discussed in the context of actual and imagined urbanistic problems. Special attention has to be given to the problems that are persistently repeating. In the context of reactions of urbanist theory and practice and in the context of the question of 'opening to the world', the critical judgement of involvement of Slovenian urbanism in the synchronic development of the profession in Europe and in the world is seen as a positive one. It is also seen positively in the judgement of possible consequences of more intensive inflow of the influences in the new circumstances of Slovenian accession to the European Union. The article deliberately includes also some references to the special circumstances of development of our urbanistic theory and practice, which can represent historiographic material for analysing development in the last 50 years. |
