Abstract

Secondary title: Growth of Hop Hornbeam on the Kroparska Mountain
Secondary abstract: In the thesis the structure of stands and growth characteristics of hop hornbeam (Ostrya carpinifolia Scop.) is analysed. Five plots measuring 100 m2 were set. All trees with diameter at breast height of 5 cm or more were measured at each plot. Four dominant hop hornbeam trees were cut on each plot to make stem analyses. Moreover, four European beech trees and two oak trees were cut for stem analyses. According to the analysis, stand densities and stand basal areas are pretty high. The analysis of age shows that hop hornbeamoften exceeds the age of 100 years. Furthermore, the growth in height and diameter is solid on shady side in spite of scree bedrock, the growth of hop hornbeams on an abandoned meadow is very fast, and the established site productivities of extreme sites are very low. Less than half of hop hornbeam trees have narrow tree-rings as a result of higher temperatures during growing periods.
