Abstract

Sinteza pridobljenih spoznanj vodi do zaključka, da kompleksnost izgradnje in vzdrževanja ekosistema brezstičnega plačilnega sistema NFC presega kompleksnost izgradnje in vzdrževanja kartičnega plačilnega sistema.

Secondary title: NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment systems
Secondary abstract: NFC-enabled proximity mobile payments are hot topic lately during conversations about advanced mobile payment solutions. NFC technology is often represented as the best choice amongst the available solutions for local mobile payments. Such recommendations are not coincidental, and are based on the realistic assumptions. They were never really broadly confirmed in reality though, except for some successful stories. It seems that barriers still exist, preventing them to be fully confirmed in reality. Getting knowledge about different dimensions of this barriers is the main goal of this master thesis, at the beginning of which I am focusing on presentation of common mobile payment features and acceptance, emphasising NFC proximity payments. In the next chapter I am addressing NFC technology features and its architecture inside mobile phone, which is then followed by presentation of NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment ecosystem theoretical model. The structure and functioning of this ecosistem are further explained through the presentation of features for every stakeholder. This gives me theoretical background, needed for addressing potencial bussiness models and scenarios, which stakeholders can use to implement NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment system. Knowledge, gathered with this insight is then upgraded through the discussion about key factors, that must be addressed by main stakeholders while building NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment ecosystem. Next, presented implementation scenarios for NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment system are connected with several practical examples. In the final part of this master thesis I evaluate appropriateness of different approaches to mobile payments for local payments conducting, and focus on presentation of the current status and recent trends in this field. Synthesis of gathered knowledge leads to the conclusion, that complexity of building and maintaining NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment ecosystem surpasses complexity of building and maintaining common smard card payment ecosystem. Ability to support value-add applications and services is therefore necessary requirement to achieve long time sustainability of NFC-enabled proximity mobile payment system. It is also evident that NFC technology, despite its advantages, is not the best choice for everybody that is planning to offer his costumers local mobile payment services. Potential contactless mobile payment service provider that wants to enter the physical world of payment terminals should therefore carefully evaluate all available approaches, and use its own assessment to choose the right one amongst them.
