Abstract

Zaradi vedno hitrejšega ritma življenja in nenehnih pritiskov smo vseskozi izpostavljeni stresu in njegovim negativnim posledicam.

Secondary title: Analysis of stress in police work
Secondary abstract: Because of the increasingly faster way of life and constant pressure, we are always exposed to stress and its negative effects. Stress is a state of tension of an organism, which sets in when the organism is faced with changes in the environment. This is followed by an unspecific reaction, which leads to a possible resistance. Stress can be positive if we feel that we got the situation under control and negative, if we feel that situation has gone out of hands. Police work is categorized as one of the most stressful professions. Because of the type and the extent of their duties, police officers are exposed to great psychological and physical stresses and their job is tightly connected with the danger of the profession and circumstances, which often puts their safety and lives on the line. In this master’s thesis we were studying the presence of stress in police officers of the Police station Maribor I. In the theoretical part we defined stress and sources of stress at the workplace, explained the consequences of stress at the workplace and ways of overcoming stress on a personal and on the organization level. Then we focused on the profession of the police officer and define the occurrence of stress at the police officer’s workplace, consequences and ways of overcoming stress. In the empirical part we studied the occurrence of stress related with police work on 40 police officers of the Police station Maribor I. We studied the occurrence of stress on their job, factors that cause stress to the police officers, symptoms that occur as a result of stressful situations, ways to cope with stress and overcome the stressful situations. Our research confirmed the fact that police officers on their jobs are under stress. The biggest stress factor is their monthly salary. They cope with stress by setting priorities and achievable objectives.
