Abstract

Secondary title: THE ROLE OF THE NURSE IN CARE OF PATIENT WITH TUBERCULOSIS
Secondary abstract: Theoretical background: Tuberculosis is the most common infectious disease. Because of the high incidence and mortality is one of the three deadliest diseases in the world and still remains a global health problem. Early recognition of signs of the disease, isolation of infectious patients, proper and effective treatment of tuberculosis patients are key for preventing the spread of disease. Platform for prevention of tuberculosis are: preventive treatment of latent tuberculosis infection, the implementation of measures to prevent the transmission of infection in health and home environment, review of contacts and vaccinations. The purpose in the empirical part was by means of a questionnaire determine whether nurses in the lung section have enough knowledge about tuberculosis. Methods: The study was based on a quantitative methodology, we used descriptive method of research. Data were collected using an anonymous questionnaire containing 19 questions. The survey, which was conducted in Topolšica Hospital, included 30 employees who are employed in the lung section. Results: The study showed that employees in the lung section recognize the symptoms of tuberculosis, medications used to treat tuberculosis and time of application. We found that more than ½ of the respondents uses a mask at each contact with tuberculosis patients, but less than ½ of the respondents ignores and are not aware about standards of protective coatings. Only ½ of the respondents are directly present at the patient when he takes anti-tuberculosis medication. Results of the survey showed that less than ½ of the employees have need for additional knowledge about tuberculosis, more than ½ of them have a wish to gain extra knowledge about a certain subject matters. Conclusion: We believe that the hospitals should organize several lectures about tuberculosis, about topics that are suggested by employees and medical staff' and lectures about new researches.
