Design of steel tanks for seismic loading |

Diploma analyses steel cylindrical tanks design according to prEN 1998-4 standard. Emphasis is given to limit states, ultimate limit state requirements, reliability differentiation requirements and analysis of tanks behaviour at seismic loading. Seismic loading is due to great complexity of mutual response analysed by components in vertical and horizontal directions at presumption of rigid and deformable tanks. Tanks are divided into groups according to rigidity which enabled us easier understanding of behaviour and defining loading for individual components. With presumption of rigid tanks we have rigid impulsive component that is consequence of horizontal movement of walls and component of sloshing that is caused by horizontal movement of tank. With deformable tank we define only the flexible component of tank walls that are caused by flexible moving of walls relative to base. Components are then mutually combined in order to get more realistic response of construction. Combined values of loads are used to define stresses in tank shell and afterwards to verification of plastic limit, elastic buckling and elastic-plastic collapse (elephant’s foot). Individual components and mutual comparison of their influences are depicted graphically and using comments. To compare loading and verification, procedure for defining, according to API 650 (Annex E) standard, is presented. To present design of steel tanks for seismic loading complete calculation of seismic loading, combinations, stresses and verifications needed according to procedure prEN 1998-4 and API 650 (Annex) E has been made. |
