Secondary title: Importing local data in Google Earth
Secondary abstract: Google Earth and Google SketchUp caused a huge interest in the field of 3D city modeling. Especially Google Earth brought an awareness of the accessibility and utility of geographic information to a wide audience. Creating such 3D models and sharing them benefits local communities by: engaging the public in planning (redevelopment, historic preservation …), boosting tourism, simplifying navigation and geographic analysis, enhancing facilities management, fostering economic development … This work describes how to build such 3D model from collecting terrain data to importing a model to Google Earth. I have created this 3D model using SketchUp and Photoshop. There is also a short description of other 3D modeling approaches, which one could use: CityGML, VRML/X3D and CAD.
