Treatment of light and shadow in the preschool education |

The light is one of the most important sources of life and it is perceived with our sense of vision since birth. In physics, light can be represented as waves or as small particles moving through the medium at high speed. Light emitting objects are nowadays numerous and when the light from the source interacts with certain objects it can be transmitted, reflected, or absorbed. This means, that in certain circumstances shadows could appear, which depend on the source. All this phenomena can be detected with our sense of vision, which is sensitive for these stimulations.
Children in pre-school education are already aware of the light and shadows. However, the light can be a great source of curiosity, exploration and joy to children due to its characteristics – in case when the teacher is willing to devote some time to this phenomena. From the age two children can form fundamental ideas about light, which are developed and supplemented by the knowledge about light which is gained through later years of life. |
