Secondary abstract:	The main goal of the diploma thesis is to present benefits of application of benchmarking method for municipal activities, especially as to water supply services. The first part deals with the description of the method characteristics. In continuation some possible purposes of application of benchmarking for municipal activities are stated, the most important being the regulation of municipal activities. In addition, phases of benchmarking projects performance are listed and described in the paper. Further, different ways of benchmarking application and accomplished projects from abroad are presented. In Slovenia benchmarking was not commonly applied to municipal activities. However, certain projects are being carried out and some of them are described in this paper. In the last part of my diploma thesis the proposed model "The Application of Benchmarking Method for evaluation of Water Supply Services" is presented. A general model for initial analysis and representation of the present situation in the domain of water supply services was made. This is a simple model with some crucial indicators. It includes all the necessary data and their sources. In the last chapter some other possible applications of the chosen indicators are proposed and described.
