Secondary title: Vector database for road navigation
Secondary abstract: Vehicle navigation devices use vector cartographic view, which is designed as a vector database. Database creation begins by setting up a landscape model which includes all the graphical and descriptive data required for accurate vehicle navigation. This paper presents the creation of a database part called StreetConnect, which is used for road navigation. Data obtained using distinct specifications have been transformed into the format compatible with Garmin GPS devices. Data have been obtained from national maps, digital landscape images, official records and collections, and the field. The paper describes the sources, methods and criteria for collecting data; database layers; interpretation of data; some views concerning the database quality; the AdriaRoute end product; and some potential upgrades of the database. The StreetConnect database is managed and maintained by the Monolit d.o.o. company.
