Secondary title: Seismic analysis of five and ten storey wall building
Secondary abstract: The graduation thesis deals with reinforced concrete wall buildings analyzed and partially de- signed on the effect of the seismic load according to the SIST EN 1998-1 standard. First, the concepts of seismic design are described. The procedure for determination of the structural system, the provisions for regularity in plan and in elevation, as well as the behavior factor, are briefly presented and discussed. Later on, two examples, a five and a ten storey wall buil- dings, are presented aiming to determine the proper amount of reinforcement in the structural walls. For both analyzed structures the ductile wall structural system with uncoupled walls and medium ductility class has been chosen. Two structural models were constructed, using only beam/column or shell elements, in order to ascertain the strengths and the weaknesses of di- fferent structural models. Both models were constructed with the SAP2000 program which is briefly described in the graduate thesis. The global results of seismic analyses are presented in terms of the mode shapes, periods and the storey shear forces. Further, the sample wall SY2, for which stricter demands, in the sense of ductility, apply, was chosen to be designed. For both mo- dels and for the chosen sample wall SY1 the required reinforcement amount was automatically designed with the SAP2000 program and the results were verified with the results obtained with the DIAS program. Quite some difference was observed in the required reinforcement amount if it was determined based on the results of beam/column or shell model.
